Shades of Green

There’s an unpaved pathway leading from the Concrete House to the rocks, and the endless ocean stretching beyond the horizon that splits sky from sea.
I stayed out there for awhile, trying to take it all in: the sound of waves forcefully crashing against the rocks — so violently powerful yet so calming. Just to the side, I saw the graduated layers of lush green mountainside, slotted into place like films staggered one behind the other. The air, while not as crisp or nostril-opening-slash-lung-filling as that of the Pacific North West, still has the wafting, semi-nauseating fragrance of tropical flora and fauna.
